Major Machine Works Ltd. was incorporated by Henri Major in 1979 in Atikokan, Ontario.
In 1983, when the Hemlo Gold fields were discovered and the 3 major Mines were being developed, Henri, with his wife Theresa and family moved to Marathon and continued their business from this new location.

In 1989, Henri became ill and sold the business to Mr. George Thomson, President of Saxum Canada Inc, a bit and drill steel fabricator/supplier of Brampton, Ontario. Saxum Rock Tools is a division of Saxum Canada. Saxum and Major's worked hand in hand for many years.

Eventually, Saxum Canada entered into a business relationship with Eastrock Inc. of Ottawa, Ontario. Eastrock Inc. is a supplier to the rock drilling and breaking and demolition industries. They supply a wide range of products to customers engaged in the quarrying and surface mining industry, rock drilling for the construction industry, and demolition companies and service primarily the North Eastern portion of North America.

The Saxum Rock Tool Division closed their doors in 2004 so we no longer sell bits and drill steel from this location.

Major Machines is a CWB Certified Welding and Machine Shop and continues to work very closely with the Mining and Pulp and Paper Industry, producing quality product at competitive pricing. It is with the dedication and teamwork of the Manager and our employees that we can meet these goals.
